Building Better Content: Delta’s In-flight Safety Video

The first post in this series features one of the inspirations behind the idea! Delta shows a video (on most flights) before takeoff that covers vital safety instructions. Yet, they’ve taken the opportunity to turn a fairly dry experience into something equally helpful and fun. It’s quirky, but not too goofy—after all, they do want you to know that they take your safety seriously. The most important parts of the message come across clearly while exposing you to a friendly, light-hearted personality.

One very important component is that they’ve filmed it on an actual plane with a flight attendant, which may seem obvious, but consider how much different it would feel if it were filmed like most other safety videos: in a dull room with “illustrations” to demonstrate safety precautions. Adding the human element is a huge win for Delta by making folks feel connected and comfortable with their brand.

Enjoy the video, and consider how you can infuse fun into your content without losing your message or being over-the-top.
